Got a Tip?

Zack Snyder Says There’s ‘No Plan’ For Him To Work On More DC Universe Films Post-‘Justice League’

In a matter of weeks (supposedly), the world will be graced by the long-awaited Snyder Cut of “Justice League” on HBO Max. Though it doesn’t have an official release date, as of yet, the fan enthusiasm surrounding the release is at an all-time high, as everyone wants to know what Zack Snyder’s vision of “Justice League” really was before Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon got a hold of it. And with the film (now, a miniseries) coming around the corner, the inevitable question lingers— Are there more Zack Snyder/DC projects on the way?

Speaking to Comic Book Debate, Zack Snyder was asked that very question. What will be the future of his DC Snyderverse story once he finishes “Justice League?” Well, unfortunately for fans, it doesn’t appear as if there is much of a future.

“Look, I never thought I’d be here doing this. I didn’t think I’d be finishing ‘Justice League,’” Snyder admitted. “The truth is, and it’s been widely reported, and I have no issue, this is an old movie. This is a years-old movie I’m working on. The DC universe has gone and branched off and done its own thing and that’s fine.”

The filmmaker added, “As far as what I did and as far as what my vision for what I wanted to do with these characters and the journey I wanted them to go on, it’s well known that I planned on more movies — five movies or something — but I’m busy. I’ve got a lot going on. Is it cool that the fans have so much faith in the trajectory? Yes, it’s amazing, and I couldn’t be happier and I’m excited for them to see ‘Justice League’ so they can really drink the entire elixir of ‘Justice League.’ But would I continue? I have no plan to. But like I said, I didn’t think I’d be here, so who knows?”

The cynical fan (including this writer) could see it as talking out of both sides of his mouth when he says things like he doesn’t plan on doing more movies, but then ends it with “who knows?” But honestly, it sounds as if Snyder is sincere in not having any plans for future films but is well aware that anything could happen. Who would have thought the Snyder Cut would be a real thing and that WarnerMedia would spend $70 million to make it happen? With that sort of unlikely situation, there’s no telling what could happen in the future.

This news comes as rumors swirl about the future of Snyder’s involvement with the DC universe. We’ve heard from WB execs saying there is no future for Snyder’s vision post-“Justice League.” Then you have people like Kevin Smith saying the opposite.

That said, having more Snyderverse films doesn’t really make sense. “Wonder Woman 1984” basically did away with everything associated with the character’s appearances in “Batman v. Superman” and “Justice League.” And lord knows, James Gunn is about to rewrite everything about “The Suicide Squad” franchise in his upcoming film. So, perhaps there’s really no place for Snyder’s vision of the DCEU. But at least the fans will have “Justice League.”

As of now, it appears that “Justice League: The Director’s Cut” or whatever it ends up being called, will arrive in March.
