When he’s not working on a new film (or a director’s cut of an unreleased film), filmmaker Zack Snyder apparently is playing “Fortnite.” And according to the filmmaker, if he ever gets the chance, he’d be down to direct a film adaptation of the biggest video game on the planet.
In a recent interview with eTalk, Zack Snyder was asked about his love of “Fortnite” and if that would ever translate into him making a film based on the incredibly popular video game. For those unaware (basically, if you live under a rock), “Fortnite” is a game that pits dozens of players against each other as they run around an island collecting weapons and shooting each other until one person remains. Think of it as “Battle Royale” or “The Hunger Games” but with bright colors and silly dances. Snyder has always admitted to being a big fan of the game, and now, he’s willing to offer up his services as a potential director of a feature film based on the title.
“I mean, of course, I really wanted to make some ‘Fortnite’ skins for [‘Rebel Moon’], first of all, just as the most obviously basic involvement,” said Snyder. “But, yeah, ‘Fortnite’ is an amazing world and it’s an amazing distraction, for me.”

He added, “It’s really cool. The alchemy they’ve created there is really unique. When I started playing it, I thought I knew what it was and then it was something entirely different.”
As with everything in his career, Snyder said that people shouldn’t rule out the possibility that he might work on a “Fortnite” film in the future, even if he’s clearly knee-deep in “Rebel Moon” at this time.
“You definitely don’t know,” he said. “You definitely can say never say never. That’s my mantra in this business.”
While it’s not difficult to imagine Snyder’s penchant for bold action sequences working really well with the “Fortnite” franchise, it would be interesting to see how he would manage to adapt all the really silly shit that is found in that game. Also, there’s the problem of Snyder’s love of muted colors. All it takes is two seconds of “Fortnite” gameplay to know the franchise is overflowing with garish colors and style. All that to say, while Snyder would probably make a pretty “Fortnite” film, it’s difficult to imagine it actually looking anything like the game.
But hey, that’s all hypothetical anyway. What isn’t hypothetical is the fact that “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire” is available now on Netflix.
