Given that the next few days are going to be dominated by the “Star Wars” news machine, you gotta feel a little bit for Paramount Pictures as they have one week left to go to drum up excitement for “Star Trek Beyond.” The franchise has to win back some hearts after the misfire of “Star Trek Into Darkness,” which even J.J. Abrams has admitted he flubbed, and it seems the studio and filmmakers are doubling down on the spectacle, and backing off from the brainier aspects of the property.
A few new clips and twenty images provide a closer look at the movie, providing a little romance, a little action, and introducing the audience to Jaylah, the latest addition to the “Star Trek” universe of characters. It all looks very rote and not particularly inspired, but perhaps in the context in the film as a whole, it’ll gain some further resonance.
“Star Trek Beyond” opens on July 22nd.
