Emilia Clarke and Jack Huston have signed up to star in the movie. Written by Chris Gerolmo (“Mississippi Burning“) and based on the book by Joe Sharkey, the movie will tell the true story of a newly married FBI agent assigned to an Appalachian mountain town in Kentucky. He is soon drawn into an illicit affair with an impoverished local woman who becomes his star informant —she sees in him her means of escape from poverty, but it proves a ticket to disaster for both instead. The ensuing scandal shook the foundations of the nation’s top law enforcement agency, ending in the first ever conviction of an FBI agent for murder.
Cameras will start rolling on May 23rd, and like every new movie announced at this time of year, the project will be headed to the sales market at the Cannes Film Festival. The last efforts from Noyce —the YA pic “The Giver” and tepid HBO flick “Martha and Martha“— didn’t exactly impress, but here’s hoping he’s got his mojo back this time.
