Got a Tip?

Jude Law Says Sticking Around For More ‘Star Wars’ & Marvel Are Up To Those Studios, But ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ Has A New Script

A two-time Oscar-nominated actor known for his serious chops, Jude Law, has been spreading his wings a little bit and trying out the world of franchises in recent years. His first foray into that blockbuster domain was “Sherlock Holmes” with Robert Downey Jr. In recent years, he did a stint in Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” alongside Brie Larson, and next month in December, he joins the “Star Wars” universe in Lucasfilm’s upcoming series, “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.”

We recently caught up with Law to discuss his upcoming FBI/white supremacy drama, “The Order,” directed by Justin Kurzel (“Macbeth”) and co-starring Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Jurnee Smollett, and many more. During the interview, the actor updated us on the status of “Sherlock Holmes 3” and any other potential franchise appearances.

When asked about “Sherlock Holmes 3” and its past connections to a time travel storyline, Law suggested the movie has gone in a new direction and has a new script as well.

“Gosh, yeah, that’s interesting,” Law said about the once-mooted plan of time travel being involved in a third film. “The plan has been evolving over how many years it’s been now, probably nearly ten years.”

“There’s a great will to make it,” he continued. “And a great will amongst us all to get it right to do it, to find the time, to find the right team. The one great thing I took from both of those films is my friendship with Robert [Downey Jr.] and his wife Susan, they mean an awful lot to me. The hope is we’re still going to do it.”

“I think there’s a new iteration of the script I haven’t yet read. And then there’s a case of ‘How expensive is it? And can we get it made?’” he laughed.

Law said his friendship with Downey Jr. is one of the driving factors behind making a third film, but also just the experience of working with the actor, who he says has a unique energy, unlike most others.

“Exactly, but honestly, also, there’s a friendship, but also the experience of working with Robert, and he really does bring an extraordinarily brilliant, fun, motivated, and inspirational kind of quality to a film set, and I miss it being a part of that,” he said. “It was a great experience.”

As for his foray into the “Star Wars” galaxy and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Law said he’d be down to return to both, but it’s all up to Lucasfilm or Marvel.

Asked whether his ‘Skeleton Crew character would be seen in the galaxy far, far away again, he answered, “That I don’t know. That’s up to them,” he smiled. “I guess if it takes, maybe. I don’t know. I hope so! He was a lot of fun to play.”

And as for Marvel and whether we’ll ever see Yon-Rogg again, he had a similar answer. He did suggest he’s still under contract to some franchise, but he couldn’t remember which one.

“Again, I have no idea,” he said about a return to the MCU. “I can’t even remember what I contractually owe to anyone [laughs]. If there’s a contract, it’s up to them. If they make the call, you gotta go, ‘OK, I’m here.’ But I can’t remember who I am beholden to, and again, the ball is always in their court. I’m just a player.”

We’ll have more from this interview and the excellent “The Order” film, which comes out December 6 via Vertical, soon.
