Unfolding with novelistic depth, and featuring stirring performances from Casey Affleck, Kyle Chandler, Lucas Hedges, and Michelle Williams, Kenneth Lonergan‘s “Manchester By The Sea” is deservedly one of the major talking points of this year’s awards season. And one more ingredient that is vital to the potent drama is the score by Lesley Barber, and today we’re excited to unveil an exclusive track from her soundtrack to the film.
“Manchester By The Sea” tells the story of Lee Chandler, whose older brother Joe suddenly passes away, leaving him the legal guardian of his nephew Patrick. Lee is now forced to face his troubled and tragic past when he returns to the community where he was born and raised. There’s a complex array of emotions that run through the film, and Barber’s work transmits and accompanies them all.
Barber previously worked with Lonergan on his acclaimed debut feature, “You Can Count On Me,” and she has provided music for films such as “Mansfield Park,” “Hysterical Blindness,” “A Price Above Rubies,” and “When Night Is Falling.” For ‘Manchester,’ Barber utilized harmonized vocal performances and atmospheric orchestral work to create a memorable score that makes an excellent companion to the classical pieces curated by the award-winning music supervisor Linda Cohen.
