'Filmlovers!' Trailer: Arnaud Desplechin's Latest Is A Coming-Of-Age Story About The Love Of Film

There have been a million films about films. How many times have you seen a director make a movie about the love of movies? It’s so commonplace that it almost loses its meaning. But when a filmmaker like Arnaud Desplechin makes a film about films, such as “Filmlovers!” you pay attention.

As seen in the trailer for “Filmlovers!” the movie follows the story of a young kid who becomes obsessed with films after seeing one on the big screen. The film is a coming-of-age story where the major moments in the young boy’s life revolve around the various films he watches. It’s probably a story that is felt by many of Desplechin’s viewers. Adding to the intrigue is that one of the characters from the film has actually previously showed up in Desplechin’s films, “My Sex Life… or How I Got into an Argument” and “My Golden Days.”

The film features a cast that includes Milo Machado-Graner, Mathieu Amalric, Françoise Lebrun, Micha Lescot, Salif Cissé, Olga Milshtein, Dominique Païni, Clément Hervieu-Léger, and Sam Chemoul. As mentioned, the film is directed by Desplechin, who is probably best known for films such as “My Golden Days,” “Oh Mercy,” and most recently, “Brother and Sister.”

“Filmlovers!” is part of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. A worldwide release has yet to be announced. You can watch the trailer below.
