We’ve never been short on Stephen King adaptations, but it seems we’re in a particularly busy moment for projects based on the author’s work. The next few months will be bringing both “The Dark Tower” and “It” to the big screen, while King and J.J. Abrams are conjuring up “Castle Rock” for Hulu. If that’s not enough, this summer you’ll be able to jump over to the Audience Network (¯\_(ツ)_/¯) for “Mr. Mercedes.”
Brendan Gleeson, Harry Treadaway, Kelly Lynch, Jharrell Jerome, Breeda Wool, Justine Lupe, Mary-Louise Parker and Holland Taylor star in the series, that has David E. Kelley (“Big Little Lies,” “Chicago Hope,” “Boston Public”) as showrunner, and follows a retired police detective who winds up in a cat-and-mouse game with a serial killer. Here’s the official synopsis:
A demented serial killer taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he can strike again. Based on the bestselling novel by Stephen King. Directed by Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones) and adapted for television by David E. Kelley. All three serve as Executive Producers.
“Mr. Mercedes” arrives on August 9th.
