New Trailer For 'The Dark Tower' Falls Between Darkness & Light

With Sony celebrating the launch of the rebooted Spider-Man franchise over the weekend, it’s just the start of the studio’s cinematic universe plans. Stephen King‘s “The Dark Tower” was developed with an eye toward launching a series that would leave its footprint on both the big screen and television, but in order to get there, the first movie has to strike a chord. So far, the film hasn’t been generating good buzz, but we’ll see if Sony can turn it out.

Certainly, they didn’t slouch on star power, bringing in Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey to star in the movie, which will introduce audiences to the eternal battle over good and evil, and the tower that’s at the center of it all. Here’s the official synopsis:

There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, and co-starring Tom Taylor, Claudia Kim, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee and Jackie Earle Haley, “The Dark Tower” opens on August 4th.
