'Han Solo' Gets Necessary Clint Howard Cameo

Lucasfilm‘s still untitled Han Solo movie is currently in the phase where everyone is pretending everything is totally fine and going great. “It’s a fantastic script, a great cast and I am having a fantastic creative experience with it,” replacement director Ron Howard enthused to THR. “It’s a great young cast, incredibly strong — smart, funny people who love their characters and love being part of this. I think we’ll be able to do something that is a lot of fun.”

As you know, the film hit a serious road bump when Phil Lord and Chris Miller quit the picture after creatively clashing with executives, but it looks like Howard is finding a balance between putting his mark on the material, without rocking the aesthetic of his forebears.

First off, the director is setting aside room for his brother Clint Howard to make a cameo appearance in the Han Solo flick. It’s a tradition for the filmmaker, who has found roles for his sibling in numerous films, and it must be some kind of good luck charm, because I can’t imagine coming into a production midstream, and with all the logistics involved, spending some time trying to figure out how to get a family member in the movie. Maybe that’s just me.

Meanwhile, one of the main things had us excited for the Han Solo flick was knowing that cinematographer Bradford Young (“Selma,” “A Most Violent Year,” “Arrival“) would be making his blockbuster debut of picture. The good news is that his services have been retained, which makes a lot of sense, because for Howard to come in this late in the game, and find someone else to work the cameras or deviate from all the footage Lord and Miller shot would be a bit insane.

So, there’s your latest Han Solo update, and the film is still scheduled to open on May 25, 2018.
