Vin Diesel Rebooting 'Miami Vice' TV Series

The thought process behind reboots in Hollywood isn’t that complicated. It usually involves using A Property That People Recognize, throwing some writers and talent at it, and then dressing it up in contemporary clothing. It has little to do with honoring the source material, but simply trotting out a familiar name in a new coat of paint. So, here we go again with “Miami Vice,” though this time it comes with a bit of star power attached.

Vin Diesel himself is involved in rebooting the Michael Mann sort of iconic series, Shana Waterman (“24: Live Another Day,” “Wayward Pines“) is also involved, working for the actor’s One Race Television production company. Apparently, Diesel is so passionate about the project, he went to NBC personally to pitch it, and they scooped it up. There’s no word yet on what the new take on the show will be, but I’m just going to assume that Crockett and Tubbs will be more fast and furious and do “xXx” style extreme stunts. But don’t worry, it doesn’t look like Diesel is going to star — he’s just going to produce.

I won’t bore you with the track record of movie to TV reboots on the small screen, but if “Lethal Weapon” can live to see a second season on Fox, I guess anything is possible. [THR]
