If the movie season was a sport, we’d be right in the heart of the playoffs. The march toward the Oscars continues, and tonight, the Gotham Awards will be the first group to hand out trophies to the films and performances of 2016, and in the running will be Natalie Portman for “Jackie.” And it’s a turn that’s already earning buzz as a strong contender for the Academy Awards.
The film, directed by Pablo Larraín and produced by Darren Aronofsky, profiles the strong-willed First Lady shortly after her husband’s assassination, and as you’ll see in this clip, she has a particularly diplomatic way of getting what she wanted. Here’s the official synopsis:
JACKIE is a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). JACKIE places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband’s assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband’s legacy and the world of “Camelot” that they created and loved so well.
“Jackie” opens in limited release this Friday, December 2nd. Check out the clip and two new TV spots below.
