'The Raid' Director Gareth Evans Finds The 'Apostle'

It’s a been a little while since we’ve heard from Gareth Evans. While the director popped up at the beginning of the year with a five-minute test reel that he made public, the man behind “The Raid” and “The Raid 2” has kept a pretty low profile. Now, it looks like he’s ready to return, but it won’t be for “The Raid 3,” because as you might recall, Evans said back in 2014 that that would be a ways off.

“I don’t want to do it for three years, maybe. I do have a concept in mind,” the director said. “If this one is two hours after ‘The Raid’ finished, ‘Raid 3′ starts three hours before ‘The Raid 2′ finishes. So you go back in time a little and then branch off for a different story.”

Instead, Evans will put his energies into writing and directing “Apostle.” The story will follow a man who goes to remote island to rescue his sister from the clutches of a religious cult. However, the cult is demanding a ransom to free the woman, leading the man to take things into his own hands — probably with violent intensity, if Evans’ past work is anything to go by.

Production on the movie is aiming to kick off next spring, so keep an ear to the ground for more info.
