Lately, Tom Hardy has had his hands in a few different pies. He kicked the year off leading the FX series “Taboo,” he currently stars in Christopher Nolan‘s WWII effort “Dunkirk,” and has the title role in Sony‘s “Venom.” Continuing his efforts to keep his workload diversified, the actor is lining up a war drama.

Hardy has signed up to produce and star in “My War Gone By, I Miss It So.” Based on the book by war correspondent Anthony Loyd, the film will tell his true story of leaving the British army, and heading to the front lines of the Bosnian conflict, then returning home, where he battled heroin addiction. Here’s the official book synopsis:
Nothing can prepare you for Anthony Loyd’s portrait of war. It is the story of the unspeakable terror and the visceral, ecstatic thrill of combat, and the lives and dreams laid to waste by the bloodiest conflict that Europe has witnessed since the Second World War.
Born into a distinguished military family, Loyd was raised on the stories of his ancestors’ exploits and grew up fascinated with war. Unsatisfied by a brief career in the British Army, he set out for the killing fields in Bosnia. It was there–in the midst of the roar of battle and the life-and-death struggle among the Serbs, Croatians, and Bosnian Muslims–that he would discover humanity at its worst and best. Profoundly shocking, poetic, and ultimately redemptive, this is an uncompromising look at the brutality of war and its terrifyingly seductive power.
There’s no word yet on who will write the script, but Hardy will reteam with his “Warrior” director Gavin O’Connor. Given the busy schedules of both the star and helmer, it’s probably a safe bet that this movie is a long way off for both of them (indeed, O’Connor has a sequel to “The Accountant,” “The Green Hornet,” “Atlantic Wall,” and “Father Daughter Time” all on his plate). Still, it’s one with some big potential and a meaty role for Hardy to dive in to.
