'Westworld' Star Thandie Newton Saddles Up For 'Star Wars' Han Solo Movie

It seems with each movie in the “Star Wars” slate of films, the casting just gets better and better. The main saga movies made a smart bet on newcomer Daisy Ridley to take the lead, surrounded her with franchise veterans, and filled out the ensemble with folks like John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver. The spinoff movies have arguably had even more exciting names involved, with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” bringing in a killer cast including Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, and more. And that tradition of great talent is continuing with the Han Solo spinoff.

Variety reports that Thandie Newton, fresh off the buzzworthy “Westworld,” is in negotiations for Phil Lord and Chris Miller‘s film. She’ll be joining Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the currently filming movie, and of course Newton’s role hasn’t been revealed. And not to worry, her duties won’t conflict with the second season of “Westworld,” which starts shooting later this year.

The untitled Han Solo movie is scheduled to open on May 25, 2018.
