Got a Tip?

11 TV Shows To Watch In October: ‘Daredevil,’ ‘Sabrina,’ ‘The Romanoffs’ & More

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Synopsis: A young woman abandons a choice job at a law firm and her life in New York in an attempt to find happiness in the unlikely locale of West Covina, California.
What You Need to Know: There is no reason that the dark comedy-musical “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” should have succeeded at the rate that it did and yet, miraculously, the show has managed to get better with each and every season. This is a trend we hope to see continue with its fourth and final season. Rachel Bloom continues to deliver one of the finest performances on television as Rebecca Bunch and following her acceptance of her self-destructive tendencies at the end of season three, we should expect a similar level of character study along with all of the clever and catchy tunes that they’ve been delivering since day one.
Release Date: October 12th on The CW

Camping
Synopsis: An obsessively organized and aggressively controlling woman gathers together her meek sister, her holier-than-thou ex-best friend, and a free-spirited tagalong for a back-to-nature camping trip to celebrate her husband’s 44th birthday.
What You Need To Know: Jennifer Garner graces the small screen once more with this new comedy. Even though her newest film “Peppermint” could be considered more akin to her early television days with “Alias,” “Camping” has Garner jumping back full force into the comedy genre.  Inspired by the successful British series of the same name, the show was created by Jennifer Konner and Lena Dunham of “Girls” fame and also stars Juliette Lewis, David Tennant, Janicza Bravo, Arturo del Puerto, Brett Gelman, Cheyenne Haynes, and Duncan Joiner.
Release Date: October 14th on HBO

Daredevil
Synopsis: Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world or embracing his destiny as a hero.
What You Need to Know: There’s a lot of doubt going into the third season of “Daredevil.” The Netflix series began strong enough with a distinguished sense of tone and strong lead with Charlie Cox as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. However, it didn’t take long into season two to realize that the show wouldn’t be able to sustain itself if it continued to take itself so seriously, diminishing any fun that should be had while watching a superhero property come to life, especially one so popular. The same could be said for the rest of the streaming services Marvel properties which, barring most of the first season of “Jessica Jones” and the first half of “Luke Cage’s” first season, have been disastrous slogs to burn through. Season three is a chance to bring some excitement back to the story with the return of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and the promise of adapting one of the most iconic runs of stories from the “Daredevil” canon with “Born Again.”
Release Date: October 19th on Netflix

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Synopsis: As her 16th birthday nears, Sabrina must choose between the witch world of her family and the human world of her friends. Based on the Archie comic.
What You Need To Know: Some of us older folks may recall this story with the role formerly played by Melissa Joan Hart in 1990’s television series “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” a spin-off of the “Archie” Comics just as this series will be. However, this incantation promises to be darker than its predecessor.  This series was originally conceived as a companion to CW’s “Riverdale” but was ultimately picked up by Netflix. Actress Kiernan Shipka plays the title character of Sabrina Spellman. Shipka previously played Don Draper’s daughter Sally in AMC series “Mad Men.” The series, which also stars Jaz Sinclair, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Lucy Davis, and Miranda Otto, will dabble in all things horror and is expected to be a thrilling addition to your fall television lineup.
Release Date: October 26 on Netflix
