15 Films To See In September: ‘El Conde,’ ‘Henry Sugar,’ ‘The Creator’ & More

Dicks: The Musical” 
Based on the off-Broadway musical “F**cking Identical Twins” by Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson, “Dicks: The Musical” is directed by Larry Charles (“Borat,” “The Dictator.”) The musical comedy follows two business adversaries who realize they’re twin brothers and scheme up an idea to switch places. Jackson and Sharp star along with Megan Mullally, Nathan Lane, Megan Thee Stallion, and Bowen Yang as the narrator (God, in this case.) 
Release Date: September 29 in theaters via A24.

Fair Play
A big Sundance hit, “Fair Play,” starring Alden Ehrenreich and Phoebe Dynevor, looks to reignite the erotic thriller. The film, written and directed by Chloe Domont in her feature directorial debut, follows a young, newly engaged couple whose lives and relationships are pushed to the limits following an unexpected promotion at the hedge fund they both work at. Eddie Marsan co-stars as the duo’s boss, with our critic praising his performance, writing that “…Marsan is absolutely chilling as the kind of guy who hasn’t raised his voice since before these people were born, and hasn’t had to…”
Released Date: September 29 in limited theater via Netflix, October 13 on Netflix.

Flora and Son
Sing Street” director John Carney returns for another romance touched by music and comedy in “Flora and Son.” Eve Hewson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Jack Reynor star, with Hewson playing a single mother who is trying to find her son a hobby. Said hobby is found in the shape of a guitar, which she funds in someone else’s dumpster. Our critic wrote, “It’s all very charming, and when these disparate souls start making music together – Flora offers up suggestions for one of Jack’s songs and helps Max make a video for the song he wrote for his crush – we get that very specific kind of goosebump that Carney can so expertly conjure up…”
Release Date: In select theaters September 22, September 29 on Apple TV+.

Directed by Scott Waugh, Sylvester Stallone, and the boys are back to kick ass. This time, The Expendables will square up against an arms dealer who commands the might of a massive private army. Starring Jason Statham, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Dolph Lundgren, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Randy Couture, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, Andy Garcia, and Stallone.
Release Date: In theaters September 22 via Lionsgate.
