After British-Palestinian filmmaker Farah Nabulsi’s 2020 short was nominated for an Oscar and won a BAFTA for Best Short Film, all eyes were on what she’d do next. Now, her feature-length follow “The Teacher” finally hits theaters after its world premiere at TIFF 2023.

“The Teacher” stars Saleh Bakri as a Palestinian school teacher forced to balance his political ideals with his deep bonds with one of his students and a British social worker, played by Imogen Poots.

A Palestinian school teacher struggles to reconcile his risky commitment to political resistance with his emotional support for one of his students and the chance of a new relationship with a volunteer worker.
Along with Bakri and Poots, “The Teacher” also stars Muhammad Abed El Rahman and Stanley Townsend. Other cast includes Paul Herzberg, Mahmoud Bakri, and Andrea Irvine.
Farah Nabulsi both writes and directs “The Teacher.” Producers on the film include Nabulsi Sawsan Asfari, and Ossama Bawardi. Rasha and Hassan Elmasry lead executive producers with Nabulsi Mohannad Malas, Riad Kamal, and Sawsan Asfari. Co-producers include Jacqueline de Croy, Isam Salfiti, Tony Tabatzsnik, Tarek Aggad, Luke Healy, and the Ghiath and Nadia Sukhtian Foundation.
The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. It also had its MENA Premiere at the Red Sea International Film Festival in December 2023, where it won the Best Actor award. Bakri and Poots won over 15 international film festival awards during its festival run.
