Everything Everywhere All At Once Earns 11 Oscar Nominations

To the delight of many, the Oscar nomination announcements returned to a live setting for 2023 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. M3GAN” star Allison Williams and Oscar winner Riz Ahmed were up bright and early to reveal the nominees to the audible reaction of the studio publicists waiting in the wings. Once the dust had settled, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” led all films with 11 nominations, followed by “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “All Quiet on the Western Front” with nine each.

Those three films all earned a coveted Best Picture nomination along with “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Elvis,” “The Fablemans,” “TAR,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Triangle of Sadness” and “Women Talking.”

Statistically, a Best Picture nominee must also land acting, screenplay, directing, and editing nominations to win the Academy’s most prestigious honor. This year, only “Everything Everywhere,” “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “TAR” pulled that off. “Top Gun: Maverick,” “The Fablemans” and “Triangle of Sadness” are all missing one part of that winning formula.

Surprise nominations included “Triangle of Sadness” helmer Ruben Östlund in Directing, “Causeway’s” Brian Tyree Henry in Supporting Actor, “Blonde’s” Ana de Armas in Lead Actress, “To Leslie’s” Andrea Riseborough in Lead Actress, and, incredibly, Diane Warren landing her 14th Original Song nomination for “Applause” from a film almost no one has seen, “Tell It Like A Woman.”

The 95th Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and take place on March 12 airing live around the world and on ABC in the United States at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET.
