“The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”
Following “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” the second work by Roald Dahl that Wes Anderson has adapted is the upcoming “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.” Broken into four parts and chronicling various stories, the film’s main storyline follows Henry Sugar, who can see through objects and predict the future. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Henry, alongside Ralph Fiennes as Roald Dahl. The film also stars Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend, and Richard Ayoade and arrives on Netflix in September.
“The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial”
When a naval officer believes that a ship captain is acting unstable and putting the ship and the crew in danger, he is court-martialed for mutiny. Said to be the final film of director William Friedkin, it is based on the 1953 play of the same name by Herman Wouk. This film adaption stars Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Clarke, Jake Lacy, Monica Raymund, and one of the last appearances of the late great Lance Reddick.
“Hit Man”
Directed by Richard Linklater and co-written and starring Glen Powell, whose career took off after “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Hit Man,” tells the story of an undercover Houston police officer who poses as a hitman to arrest those trying to hire him. Linklater co-wrote the screenplay with Powell based on the Texas Monthly magazine article about Gary Johnson, Houston’s most sought-after professional killer. The film stars Powell, as well as Adria Arjona, Retta, Austin Amelio, and Molly Bernard.
“Dogman”
Set in New Jersey, Luc Besson’s new film depicts a man who was abused by his father and finds salvation through his love for dogs. Caleb Landry Jones, Jojo T. Gibbs, Christopher Denham, John Charles Agular, and Grae Palma star in “Dogman.” Besson, once persona non grata thanks to rape allegations and charges of which he was entirely cleared but clearly has left a mark, wrote the film, and it explores suffering and how one heals from their suffering.
“Coupe De Chance”
Obviously, this is a controversial one and not really an endorsement, especially as the embattled and seemingly forever-disgraced Woody Allen’s last few films have been so bad it almost seems like he’s given up. Regardless, it’s Allen’s fiftieth movie about the role chance and luck plays in everyone’s lives, and there is some curiosity. “Coupe De Chance” stars Lou de Laâge, Valérie Lemercier, Melvil Poupaud, and Niels Schneider.
Honorable Mention: That’s not all; obviously, Venice still has many more titles to look forward to. Some of those titles include
