Continually teased over the past week, with Sony revealing they wanted a “21 Jump Street” sequel for 2014, and that original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were back to direct, the movie just got real with an official release date.
Sony has stamped June 6, 2014 for “21 Jump Street 2” — sorry, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Of course, no there are no plot details just yet but producer Neal Mortiz did recently tease that “It leads off where we ended the last film and our guys are going to college. Now, I can’t tell you more than that because there’s some fun to be had in what college they’re going to and what’s going to happen.” Of course, plot doesn’t really matter to this franchise as it’s mainly an excuse for Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill to goof, and that’s just fine by us.
Also dated: “Sex Tape,” reuniting the “Bad Teacher” team of Jason Segel, Cameron Diaz and director Jake Kasdan will land on July 2nd. That film follows a married couple who take a night off from their kids and decide to spice up their lives by making a sex tape. Things get crazier when they wake up the next morning to find the tape is gone and they have to track it down. A big July 4th weekend date — where it will square off against Disney‘s “Maleficent” — suggest that Sony has high hopes for it (or at least are making a savvy counter-programming move).
Finally, “Think Like A Man” also has a sequel titled “Think Like A Man Too.” It arrives on June 20th. [Deadline]
