If there's one potentially awful big screen remake of a classic (maybe the word classic should have been in ironic quotes) that we're looking forward to, it's "21 Jump Street." There's really no reason this thing should work – it's a comedic take on a dramatic series, which worked out so well for "Starsky & Hutch;" it co-stars the frequently wooden Channing Tatum; and it just reeks of a kind of desperate nostalgia. That said: we cannot wait. And now we have a new-ish trailer and poster to hold us over. Also, some new footage from "The Avengers" comes courtesy of a German trailer that seems awfully strident and authoritarian.
The trailer, via Digital Spy, is incredibly similar to the green band trailer that popped up not long ago (after the hilarious red band affair). This trailer, which looks to be UK only, since the word "shit" is uttered, focuses less on the friendship between Jonah Hill and Tatum (who, we will admit, kind of won us over in "Haywire") and more on the high school shenanigans of the two cops as they go undercover in high school. We also get more Ellie Kemper, which is never, ever, ever a bad thing. Also, learning that the guys that made "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" did this kind of has us pumped.
Oh, and the new poster is kind of funny, too. Who knew you could make blow job jokes on a poster? We hope that theater managers everywhere put it up right next to the poster for "The Lorax" or "Brave." Both the trailer and the poster promise some awesome prom night shoot out which hopefully won't get ruined by the approximate 1,000 trailers and posters that will air before its March 16th, 2012 release date.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, over in Nerdville, a German trailer for Joss Whedon's superheroes-a-poppin' epic "The Avengers," has made its way online (via io9). There are actually some cool new images, including a glimpse of Captain America (Chris Evans) in his new "modern" costume and a conversation between Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), which you can't understand because the goddamn thing's in German. More interestingly, you get a peek at some kind of alien space craft, as well as bolts of purple lightning being fired at our heroes. We wonder how long Disney is going to keep the whole "superheroes versus aliens" aspect of "The Avengers" under wraps, but May 4th, 2012 will be here before you know it.
