'23 Jump Street': Channing Tatum Says A Script Exists & Is "The Best Script I've Ever Read For A Third Movie"

There’s no denying the fanbase that exists for Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill’s21 Jump Street’ films. People love them. And clearly there’s a good number of fans, as the films are seemingly on constant rotation on cable. But for some reason, the planned “23 Jump Street” never went into production. Adding to the confusion is a new comment from Tatum, who thinks the script for the film in amazing.

For those who aren’t aware, after the success of the first two ‘21 Jump Street’ films, there were reports saying that the studio was developing a third film in the franchise. That got fans really excited. Then, adding to the excitement was the crazy idea that said “23 Jump Street” would actually be a crossover film with the ‘Men in Black’ franchise. Even folks who maybe didn’t care for the first two films were actually curious about what that meant. Who wouldn’t want to see Hill and Tatum do the ‘Men in Black’ franchise? Well, someone out there didn’t want it to happen, as the film has been stalled in the development process for years now.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, while promoting his new film, “Fly Me to the Moon,” Channing Tatum talked about the current status of “23 Jump Street” and why it hasn’t been made.

“There is a project that was written and it’s still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie,” Tatum said.

When asked why it hasn’t been made yet, he replied, “It’s just a lot of bureaucracy, kind of above the line stuff. It’s really hard to get it made and we’ve been trying to get it done.”

He added, “You know what, I’m going to put some good juju out there and I’m going to say I would love to see ‘23 Jump Street.’ I would love to do it with Jonah, and Jonah I know wants to do it. We would love to just get to go play again.”

The good thing about “23 Jump Street” is that it is seemingly no longer concerned about the age of the actors. In fact, “22 Jump Street” made jokes about how the actors were probably too old to play college kids. But crossing over with the ‘Men in Black’ franchise means they don’t have to be too concerned about age. Hell, even in another five years, it could still work.

Unfortunately, it really does feel like it’s a cursed project. Something that we were teased with that will never come to fruition. At least we have the first two films. In a last ditch effort, Rodney Rothman, the writer of the planned “23 Jump Street” posted a tease of the script on X and is trying to drum up interest.
