‘The Last Class’ Trailer: American Economist Robert Reich Gets The Spotlight In New Education Documentary [Exclusive]

If you do not know the name Robert Reich, you should. An American political economist, professor, author and sometimes social media sensation for the ways he calls out the hypocrisies, lies and deceits of the Republican Party and Donald Trump, Reich has been one of the harshest and most incisive critics of hypocritical, unfair conservative politics for decades now.

Reich worked under presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. He served as Secretary of Labor in President Bill Clinton’s cabinet and as a member of President Barack Obama’s economic transition advisory board.

Reich has been featured in two major documentaries. The first was “Inequality for All” (2013), and the latest is “The Last Class,” which comes out next month. While “Inequality for All” examined the widening income gap in the U.S., ”The Last Class,” directed by Elliot Kirschner, follows Reich as he prepares to deliver his final course at Cal Berkeley.

Reich is known for his work on economic inequality and as a fierce champion of public education and American democracy. He is among one of America’s most prominent public intellectuals and has penetrated pop culture so much that he’s even voiced himself on “The Simpsons.”

Here’s the official synopsis:

The Last Class is a nuanced and deeply personal portrait of Reich as he reflects on a period of immense transformation, personally and globally. It is also a love letter to education. The former Secretary of Labor might be famous for his public service, best-selling books, and viral social media posts, but he always considered teaching his true calling. Now, after over 40 years and an extraordinary 40,000 students, Reich is preparing for his last class.

“The Last Class” opens in New York on June 27 at the Quad Cinema and will expand into multiple U.S. Cities after that via Abramorama. “Democracy is not a spectator sport. Learning is not a spectator sport. It’s active!,” Reich once famously said, and he couldn’t be more correct. Watch the trailer for “The Last Class,” which we’re proud to present exclusively, below.
