Merely days after British multi-hyphenate Noel Clarke joined J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" sequel as a mysterious "family man," Canadian actress Nazneen Contractor has now come on board the film, filling the role of Clarke's wife and the mother of his young daughter, with the exact background of their characters still unknown.
Contractor joins a host of newcomers to the revitalized 'Trek' franchise, including Clarke, Benedict Cumberbatch — who'll play a villain — as well as Peter Weller and Alice Eve in unknown roles. The quintet will join the core team of stars from the original film, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Anton Yelchin, among others.
No word still on where this leaves all those murmurs about cult favorite villan Khan returning, though, we guess, there's always a chance the sequel will have more than one antagonist involved. It was reported, however, that Edgar Ramirez and Jordi Molla were beaten by Cumberbatch out of the villainous role and those two were, at the time, noted to be in line to replace Benicio Del Toro, who was actually linked to Khan. What does this all mean? Who knows. Things seem to change every week, and guess what: that's the way Abrams likes it.
The Enterprise graces theater screens once more starting May 17th, 2013.
