Got a Tip?

‘28 Years Later’ Trailer: Time Didn’t Heal Anything In Danny Boyle’s Belated Zombie Apocalypse Horror

Nearly 20 years since the last film in the franchise, Danny Boyle returns to his long-awaited zombie apocalypse sequel. Titled “28 Years Later,” the film reunites with screenwriter-turned-director Alex Garland—their first film together since 2007’s “Sunshine,” released in the same year as “28 Weeks Later.” Not that much is known about the film, but it appears the rage virus, which had been dormant for nearly three decades has returned.

“28 Years Later” stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, Edvin Ryding, and Cillian Murphy reprises his role as the patient zero survivor from the original 2002 film “28 Days Later.” And Garland actually wrote the screenplay along with Boyle this time.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Sometime after the events of 28 Weeks Later, the Rage Virus has returned, and a group of survivors must survive in a world ravaged by hordes of the infected.

The film was reportedly shot back-to-back with another upcoming sequel, 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple,” this time directed by Nia DaCosta (“The Marvels”) and again written by Boyle and Garland.

The two films are supposed to launch a new trilogy, but it’s unclear if that means, a third installment eventually or a new trilogy based on these two films. Will Boyle and Garland return for more beyond these two films? Time will tell. In the interim, check out the first trailer for “28 Years Later” which is due in theaters on June 20, 2025 via Sony Pictures.
