'47 Meters Down: Uncaged' Trailer: Four Teens' Diving Trip Turns Into Another Watery Hell

Hollywood loves to try and keep you scared of the water by always having a new “Jaws” knock off waiting in the shallows to make a buck. In 2017, the ingeniously titled Entertainment Studios and Dimension Films banded together to make “47 Meters Down” and it turned out to be a modest hit, breathing a bit of new life into the acting careers of Mandy Moore (“This Is Us“) and Claire Holt (“Vampire Diaries“). And frankly, they were part of the film’s small charms.

But unfortunately for Entertainment Studios, both Moore and Holt aren’t back for the inevitable sequel “47 Meters Down: Uncaged” and the cast for this one, which includes superstars like John Corbett and Nia Long, is decidedly less spectacular.

Directed once again by Johannes Roberts, “47 Meters Down: Uncaged” is another would-be breath-snatcher about four girls’ ambitious day in the sun gone horribly wrong when a diving trip turns nightmarish—naturally, what else would it be?

The movie stars Sistine Rose Stallone, Brec Bassinger, John Corbett, Nia Long, Corinne Foxx, Sophie Nélisse, Brianne Tju, Davi Santos, and Khylin Rhambo.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The film follows the story of four teen girls diving in a ruined underwater city, who quickly find themselves in a watery hell as their fun outing turns into heart-stopping fear when they learn they are not alone in the submerged caves. As they swim deeper into the claustrophobic labyrinth of caves they enter the territory of the deadliest shark species in the ocean.

Will this film light up the box office like the last one did, or at least capture the imagination of the public for a brief spell in the boring theater doldrums period of August? We’ll find out soon. “47 Meters Down: Uncaged” dives into theaters August 16. Watch the new trailer below.
