’47 Ronin’ Director Carl Erik Rinsch Creates Unique Streetview Ad For Mercedes

nullIn the spring of 2010, Hollywood found themselves falling over director Carl Erik Rinsch thanks to his sci-fi short film "The Gift." Already known as an acclaimed commercials director, who was once in line to direct what has become "Prometheus" before Ridley Scott took it over himself, Rinsch's big screen talents will soon be on display with the Keanu Reeves starring samurai flick "47 Ronin" arriving next year. But keeping his directorial muscles flexed, Rinch has stepped back into the commerical world for a pretty intriguing little spot.

Starring Mariah Bonner and scored by one half of "The Social Network" composing team Atticus Ross (Bonner also had a small role in that film) the Escape The Map campaign riffs on "Inception" a bit and utilizes Google streetview, to put participants literally in the driver's seat of a C 63 AMG Coupé in a sci-fi tale blending the theme of identity in the digital age with a straight up action piece. It's probably best experienced by the user on the interactive site, but you can get a flavor of it with a screen-capture below along with an official TV spot as well.

Not unlike the Chris Milk directed video for Arcade Fire's "We Used To Wait" which also used the power of Google for an interesting effect, this one is probably worth some time on your next coffee break. Meanwhile, "47 Ronin" will cut a path into theaters on November 21, 2012. [via /Film]
