Quibi is an interesting streaming service for a number of reasons. The short episode lengths (dubbed “quick bites”) make mobile streaming much more appealing. And length and format make series like “50 States of Fright” something that can actually exist.

As seen in the new trailer for “50 States of Fright,” the Quibi anthology series is produced by Sam Raimi and follows a new urban legend/horror story that takes place in each of the 50 United States. If this was Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon, each episode would likely stretch out to an hour and watching 50 would be quite the slog. But with the entries broken down into shorts, you can probably binge chunks of them at a time.
The first season of the Quibi series is said to focus on the states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon, and Washington.
The anthology has a pretty great cast featuring Rachel Brosnahan, Travis Fimmel, Christina Ricci, Jacob Batalon, Ming-Na Wen, Taissa Farmiga, Asa Butterfield, John Marshall Jones, Ron Livingston, Victoria Justice, Karen Allen, Colin Ford, Alex Fitzalan, James Ransone, Emily Hampshire, Elizabeth Reaser, Rory Culkin, Warren Christie, Danay Garcia, and William B. Davis.
But really, the one name that is going to sell this series to viewers is Sam Raimi. Through the decades, since the debut of “The Evil Dead,” Raimi’s name has been synonymous with horror (and, to be fair, ‘Spider-Man’). Over the years, when you see Raimi attached to a horror project, you can go in assuming that it’s going to be wild, unique, and fun. Yes, fun. Even though it’ll likely scare your pants off, you’ll probably giggle a few times along the way.
We’ll have to see how hands-on he is with this anthology series when it debuts this month on Quibi. However, with the really interesting premise, the incredible cast, and Raimi, it’s hard to imagine “50 States of Fright” will be bad. Honestly, this might be the most intriguing thing on all of Quibi.
