'500 Days Of Summer' Crams Cute For Full, Pop-Laden Trailer

Marc Webb’s indie, twisted love-story “500 Days of Summer,” finally has a full-length trailer out. The film follows a greeting card writer, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt who falls for a rebellious young girl (Zooey Deschanel), as he attempts to get her to abandon her un-romantic ways.

To be honest, we still aren’t in love with the trailer, it feels too sugary and kind of plays out like a more indie version of “Definitely Maybe.” Though it’s entirely possible this could very well be contributed to the marketing department grabbing every uber-cute moment and cramming it into a two-minute clip; that’s what trailers do. We’re still willing to give this thing a shot, as director Marc Webb has already rightly scolded us for our cynicism. ‘Summer’ has also been getting very positive reviews from those who were lucky enough to see the film at Sundance, so we’ll hold our opinion until we see the actual movie (we also happen to think Zooey Deschanel may be the cutest person ever).

The music featured in the trailer, in order of appearance, is “Us” by Regina Spektor, “You Make My Dreams,” by Daryl Hall & John Oates and “Vagabond” by Wolfmother, which we believe all make an appearance in the movie. Music apparently plays a large role in the film, and Marc Webb was kind enough to walk us through the entire track listing for the film, which can be viewed here. “500 Days of Summer” comes out this summer on July 17th via Fox Searchlight.
