Got a Tip?

‘Deadpool 2’s’ Josh Brolin Confirms Plans For 4 Films Featuring Cable

For a guy who doesn’t really like franchises, actor Josh Brolin sure does find himself part of a few. Just in this year alone, Brolin will be seen in three films that are part of a franchise, with the releases of “Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado,” “Deadpool 2,” and the franchise to end all franchises, “Avengers: Infinity War.”

But in a new interview with Empire Magazine, Brolin goes into why he doesn’t really like franchises and why signing on to play Cable in “Deadpool 2” comes with a definite end in sight. We think about it in four movie terms. We tried to think of Cable as a full arc, not just in this movie, but in the trajectory of four films. That made it a lot more fun for me,” said Brolin in an interview.

With “Deadpool 2” counting as one film, that means that Brolin has probably signed on for three more films as Cable. Clearly, there’s going to be a “Deadpool 3,” unless the sequel completely bombs (not gonna happen). That leaves “X-Force” and probably its eventual sequel. Now, all those plans are probably subject to change as the Disney/Fox merger will probably go into effect at the end of Summer 2019.

Speaking of Disney, before Brolin puts on the metal arm and plays Cable, he’s got a gauntlet to wield in “Avengers: Infinity War,” playing the villain Thanos. In the same interview, Brolin says the reason he was okay with playing the Mad Titan was because the role was limited.

“I don’t like the idea of a franchise, personally,” Brolin said. “That’s what makes the Thanos thing really great. It’s a finite thing, and I like that.”

While it shouldn’t be all that much of a revelation that Thanos will probably be dispatched by the end of “Avengers 4,” at the latest, it’s nice to hear that Marvel doesn’t have open-ended plans for their big purple villain.

“Avengers: Infinity War” hits theaters April 27. “Deadpool 2” arrives just a few weeks later on May 18.
