Léa Seydoux Cast In New Thriller By French Filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin

Since his first feature-length film, “The Sentinel” in 1992, Arnaud Desplechin has been a fixture at the Cannes Film Festival. Just last year, the acclaimed director premiered “Ismael’s Ghosts” as the opening film of the prestigious event. And it appears that with his next film, “Roubaix, une lumière,” Desplechin is poising himself for another run at the festival.

According to French outlet Orange, the filmmaker is beginning production on his 10th feature film, and has enlisted actresses Léa Seydoux and Sara Forestier to round out the cast. We already have heard a bit about “Roubaix, une lumière.” The film will star Roschdy Zem as a police chief, in the titular city of Roubaix, who is trying to solve the mystery of a brutal murder of an older woman by her female neighbors, who are addicts. The report claims that Seydoux and Forestier will play the two female characters in the thriller. As you might imagine, the film will begin production in Roubaix, which is also the hometown of Desplechin.

As mentioned above, Desplechin’s last film, “Ismael’s Ghosts” premiered in 2017 at Cannes and starred Marion Cotillard and Charlotte Gainsbourg. This is the first time that Seydoux has worked with the filmmaker. Lately, the actress has done more English-language films, such as “Isle of Dogs,” “Spectre,” and the upcoming “Zoe,” starring Ewan McGregor. Forestier also hasn’t worked with Desplechin previously, but is probably best known for her César Award-winning roles in 2003’s “Games of Love and Chance” and 2011’s “Le Nom des gens.”

There’s no word on a release date, but as we’ve alluded to, it wouldn’t be a complete shock if “Roubaix, une lumière” premieres at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
