Got a Tip?

Jude Law Says It’s A “Terrible Shame” Woody Allen’s ‘Rainy Day’ Is Shelved Amid Controversy

Despite being a serious acting force for decades now, the next year could be the biggest in the illustrious career of Jude Law. With his latest film “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” just hitting theaters with a massive opening, and his first foray into superhero filmmaking with the upcoming “Captain Marvel,” the actor seems to be at the top of his game. But in a new interview, he talks about one film that he finished that probably won’t be released — Woody Allen’sA Rainy Day in New York.”

For those not aware, Law stars opposite Selena Gomez, Timothée Chalamet, Diego Luna, Elle Fanning, Liev Schreiber, Rebecca Hall, and many more in Allen’s latest film. However, after the controversial filmmaker’s past came back to haunt him, via allegations of sexual assault against an under-aged person, the Amazon Studios-produced film was shelved. And it appears the film may never see the light of day.

No matter the controversy surrounding the filmmaker, Law feels that “A Rainy Day in New York” should be released at some point. He told the New York Times, “It’s a terrible shame. I’d love to see [‘A Rainy Day in New York’ released]. People worked really hard and put a lot in, obviously himself included.”

The film has already been the source of controversy, since Allen has been in the headlines again. Many of the cast, including Chalamet and Hall have donated their entire salaries for the film to charity. However, Jude Law has stayed mum on the subject.

He explains why and whether or not he’ll be able to work with Allen again, “I didn’t really want to get involved, to be honest. I just don’t feel like it was my place to comment, and it’s too delicate a situation. I feel like enough has been said about it. It’s a private affair. [As for working with Allen again], I don’t know. I’d have to consider carefully.”

As mentioned, the actor has major franchise films on the horizon, but he also has an awards season contender with the Natalie Portman-starring “Vox Lux,” from filmmaker Brady Corbet. In the film, Portman plays a popstar, and Law played her manager. For the actor, he’s really excited about how the film fits in with the current Oscar-hyped film “A Star is Born.”

“I had seen Brady’s first film, ‘The Childhood of a Leader,’ and I was so impressed by the ambition and boldness. So he sent me the script. To me, it’s like the wicked sister to ‘A Star Is Born,’” says Law.

‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ is in theaters now. “Vox Lux” will be released December 7.
