Early last month, John Cho revealed details of the third installment of the “Harold & Kumar” franchise, the tentatively titled “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.” The film is supposed to be in the style of classic holiday films, but will obviously feature a raunchier take. Neil Patrick Harris was pretty much confirmed to re-appear while Kal Penn’s participation remained a question mark because of his duties working in the Obama administration as the Associate Director Of The White House Office Of Public Engagement.
Well, Deadline confirms the summer shoot date, which Cho said was aiming for June, and says that Penn is indeed set to return. While Cho had previously said the studio was aiming for December 2010 release date, it now appears Warner Bros. are seriously considering shooting the film in 3D and positioning the film for a 2011 or 2012 (isn’t that really far away?) release.
We have a soft spot for the first film, but “Escape From Guantanamo” was an unwatchable a mess — aside from all the scenes with Ed Helms and Rob Corddry — and a 3D-ified holiday sequel sounds painful. But hey, it might be in 3D, so all good then right?
