Composer Clint Mansell Reteaming With Director Ben Wheatley On Hitchcock Remake ‘Rebecca’

Composer Clint Mansell had a hell of a beginning to his film career. His first two scores were featured in the films “Pi” and “Requiem for a Dream.” Not a bad way to start your film career, huh? Since then, Mansell has composed music for a huge number of high-profile film and TV projects, including “Moon,” “Stoker,” “High-Rise,” and most recently, “Out of Blue.” Not to mention, he has continued to score the films from Darren Aronofsky. And upcoming, it would appear that he’s collaborating with filmmaker Ben Wheatley on the director’s upcoming remake of a classic Hitchcock film.

During an interview with The 405, Mansell revealed that he is going to score the upcoming Ben Wheatley film “Rebecca.” For those not familiar with the project, Wheatley recently signed on to direct a remake of Hitchcock’s 1940 film “Rebecca,” which earned the director two Oscars (including Best Picture) and was nominated for 9 more. The film is a psychological thriller that follows a young woman that has to live in the shadow of her new husband’s now-dead first wife.

The original famously starred Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine. Wheatley’s “Rebecca” is set to star Armie Hammer and Lily James, respectively. The remake is written by Jane Goldman, who wrote the two ‘Kingsman’ films, as well as, “Kick-Ass,” “Star Dust,” and “X-Men: First Class,” among many others.

Wheatley is probably best known for his film “High-Rise,” but also directed “Free Fire” and recently premiered “Happy New Year, Colin Burstead” at last year’s London Film Festival.

It’s unclear when production will begin on “Rebecca,” and since the film is being released by Netflix, a release date probably won’t come until about two weeks before it launches on the streaming service or in theaters. But with Mansell’s involvement, along with the talented cast and director, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for this one.
