Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr. are both officially out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But their original ‘Avengers’ buddies are going to have plenty of time to shine in the upcoming Phase 4. Today, at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios officially unveiled its lineup for the next two years, and it includes projects from the original six, including the films “Eternals,” “Black Widow” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.” And not to be left out, Jeremy Renner takes center stage in “Hawkeye,” a new streaming series for Disney+.
Mark down fall 2021 as the tentative date for when you’ll get the chance to see “Hawkeye” debut on the Disney streaming service. Marvel didn’t announce much else about the series today, except for a rough release date, Renner’s involvement, and confirmation that the series will in fact introduce the MCU version of Kate Bishop.

Why should you care about Kate Bishop? Well, in Marvel Comics, Bishop is the young woman that joins Hawkeye as his protege. And she actually takes up the mantle of Hawkeye, as well. While we don’t know this for sure, it would appear that the series will likely see the young Bishop become the Hawkeye that carries the legacy forward in the MCU, as Renner goes off and does his own thing, joining Evans and RDJ.

Honestly, after looking at the upcoming Phase 4 lineup, legacy and the future seem to be the guiding principles of the new state of the MCU. A new Hawkeye. A new Black Widow. Perhaps, Natalie Portman taking over as a new Thor-like hero. And don’t forget the new “Blade,” “Shang-Chi,” and “Eternals.” Kevin Feige clearly has a plan for the next decade. He wasn’t lying.
That being said, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. Before we can truly talk about the future, Jeremy Renner has one more chance to shine as “Hawkeye” arrives in Fall 2021.
