Marvel Sets A 'Hawkeye' Series Starring Jeremey Renner For Disney +

Well, it looks like the fate of at least one Avenger from “Avengers: Endgame” has likely been revealed. Jeremy Renner will be staying on as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least for now. Marvel has set a Disney+ “Hawkeye” show starring Renner as the archer/ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Clint Barton, and it will be a limited series where he mentors and hands off the Hawkeye role to Kate Bishop (this exact series was rumored last year too).

In the comics, Bishop is part of the Young Avengers. In the Young Avengers Presents storyline Barton advocates for the Young Avengers wishing to serve as a mentor to them. He notices Bishop’s presence and visits her later, granting her permission to use his name and bow becoming the new Hawkeye as he retires, which pretty much tells the tale of Renner and Barton’s fate in the MCU.

Bishop hasn’t been cast yet, but that hasn’t stopped many from speculating that “13 Reasons Why” star, Katherine Langford, who joined ‘Endgame’ last year in a secret role was playing Bishop. To be fair, fans speculated every variation of character she could possibly play, including Ant-Man’s daughter who is also part of the Young Avengers series. And while it’s still unknown who Langford will play, it’s possible that this character will pave the way for additional members of the Young Avengers team to slowly come into play into the MCU.

Renner is part of the original six “Avengers” and while he was not in “Avengers: Infinity War,” the ‘Endgame’ directors Anthony and Joe Russo have teased a far greater role for the archer in the film. “Hawkeye,” or whatever the series ends up being called, will be the fourth “official” Disney+ show. There’s a “Loki” limited series in the works (technically the only “official” one that Marvel has acknowledged), a “Vision & The Scarlet Witch” series, a limited series show featuring a team-up of Falcon and The Winter Soldier and now this fourth show.

“Hawkeye” would differ slightly in one way: so far, all the Disney+ Marvel shows are returning characters, B-superheroes, perhaps not big enough to mount their own movie. “Hawkeye,” if the Bishop news is correct, would be the first to introduce a new character and presumably an origin story as well. No news on when this one will shoot, and perhaps it’ll be at the back of the queue, but Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige is said to be in charge of all the Disney+ streaming shows and not the Marvel TV team as has been the case in the past.
