Believe it or not, it’s been over 10 years since actor Zach Galifianakis sate between two ferns and began interview celebrities. Exchanging barbs and quips, Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns” quasi-talk show interviewed everyone from Natalie Portman, Carrot Top, to even former President Barack Obama. Now, Galifianakis is bringing “Between Two Ferns” to the big screen.
Scott Auckerman and Galifianakis co-wrote the script with Aukerman serving as director of the film. Aukerman has previously directed 15 episodes of the series that created viral moments. The show has seen such success in its talk show format, bringing the wild premise to the screen could seem like a bit of a stretch. But with the premise it’s leaning into, it might just work.
“Between Two Ferns: The Movie” will follow Galifianakis in an effort to rebuild his reputation. The cast will feature, “celebrities that you have heard of” as the actor and funny man goes on road trip interviewing the famous and the flummoxed. While Galifianakis takes on a persona that is wholly its own beast for the talk show purposes, the film will play up that extension as Galifianakis works to spite Will Ferrell in the process. The film will hit Netflix on September 20.
