Netflix continues to show that it has a little something for just about every kind of curiosity. Nowhere may that be more true than with the selection of documentaries offered, quite possibly where it shines brightest. Want to see all the hard work that goes into competing for a national championship? Give “Cheer” a watch. How about a look into the surprisingly complicated and cutthroat life of a private zoo owner? “Tiger King” satisfies. And just when you wonder what could be next, “Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics” is a new suggestion.
Donick Cary is the writer and director of this unexpected project. He has already made a name for himself as a writer and producer on shows like “New Girl,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Silicon Valley.” It is his contributions to “The Simpsons”—however—that earned him an Emmy and may best encapsulate what viewers can expect out of him in this latest offering. Mike Rosenstein—Emmy-nominated himself for “Burning Love”—serves as the film’s producer.
Just who are some of the celebrities dropping stories about the times they dropped…you know? The list includes Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman, A$AP Rocky, Rosie Perez, and many more.
Here’s the synopsis:
HAVE A GOOD TRIP: ADVENTURES IN PSYCHEDELICS is a documentary featuring comedic tripping stories from A-list actors, comedians, and musicians. Star-studded reenactments and trippy animations bring their surreal hallucinations to life. Mixing comedy with a thorough investigation of psychedelics, HAVE A GOOD TRIP explores the pros, cons, science, history, future, pop cultural impact, and cosmic possibilities of hallucinogens. The film tackles the big questions: Can psychedelics have a powerful role in treating depression, addiction, and helping us confront our own mortality? Are we all made of the same stuff? Is love really all we need? Can trees talk?
“Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics” premieres May 11th. Check out the trailer below. Far out, Netflix. Far out.
