David Goyer is returning to Batman. Well, kind of. The co-writer of “Batman Begins” and the man who helped craft the stories for “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises” is set to tell more stories featuring the Caped Crusader. However, this time, they’re not going to appear on the big screen. Instead, Goyer’s latest ‘Batman’ story is going to be for a podcast.
According to THR, Goyer has signed on to create and produce a new podcast, titled “Batman Unburied,” which will be available exclusively on Spotify. The project is the first in a new collaboration between the streaming service and Warner Bros, which is going to see more DC superheroes venturing into the land of podcasts.
“I’ve been a fan of narrative podcasts for some time and was looking for the right story — returning to Batman seems like the perfect opportunity,” Goyer said. “We’ll be using the unique advantages of audio to dig into the more nightmarish members of the Dark Knight’s Rogues Gallery.”
Dawn Ostroff, chief content and advertising business officer at Spotify, added, “David Goyer is an exceptional talent, and we can think of no better leader to leverage the infinite possibilities of podcasting to bring the nearly 300 million Spotify users around the world a Batman saga for the ages.”
While a plot for the podcast has yet to be revealed, WB says the story “will explore the darker aspects of Bruce Wayne’s psychology.” Do you think we’ll get a story about how witnessing the murder of his parents led to severe PTSD and forced a billionaire to wear a big bat costume and punch criminals in the face? Maybe they’ll talk about how Batman isn’t so different than the crazy psychopaths that he locks up? Sigh. This does sound a bit similar to what was already covered in Goyer’s films with Christopher Nolan, but I guess we should just wait and see.
“Batman Unburied” is scheduled to arrive on Spotify sometime in 2021.
