‘Babylon’: Margot Robbie In Talks To Replace Emma Stone In Damien Chazelle’s Upcoming Feature

It might not have been the original plan, but it appears that Damien Chazelle’s upcoming period drama, “Babylon,” is going to serve as a “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” reunion for a couple of high profile actors, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

According to Deadline, Margot Robbie is in early talks to replace Emma Stone as the lead in the upcoming film, “Babylon.” Stone was originally set to reunite with her “La La Land” filmmaker, Damien Chazelle for the R-rated period drama, but it appears that dreaded scheduling conflicts are going to prevent that from happening. Now, Brad Pitt, who was announced as part of the cast a while back, is going to star opposite Robbie in the feature that aims to tell the story of Hollywood transitioning out of the silent film era.

As mentioned, Robbie and Pitt recently starred together in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Since then, Pitt is currently working on a new film, “Bullet Train,” from director David Leitch. And for Robbie, she’s about to begin production on David O. Russell’s newest feature, which, as you might expect from the filmmaker’s previous works, has a pretty stellar cast.

Unfortunately, this news also means that it’s highly likely that “Babylon” will miss its December 2021 release date. With Robbie about to begin production on the Russell film, the filming of “Babylon” will likely have to get delayed. Obviously, all of this really stems from the pandemic throwing production schedules out of the window.

With a prime December slot out of the question for 2021, it’ll be interesting to see where Paramount places “Babylon” in the future. Clearly, with Chazelle, Robbie, and Pitt, this has Oscar written all over it. We’ll just have to wait and see.
