One of the first big announcements for this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was the special IMAX debut of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune.” But make no mistake, the sci-fi epic is definitely not the only special event at this year’s TIFF. The folks at TIFF just announced the remaining sections of this year’s festival, including three special event films that are going to be exciting for film fans.

The three special event films include Asghar Farhadi’s “A Hero,” Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s “Memoria,” and Pablo Larrain’s “Spencer.” All three are expected to be awards contenders this year and will likely be big attractions for folks visiting TIFF in 2021.
Also announced as part of the rest of the TIFF 2021 lineup is the Platform Programme. This year’s Platform section is going to be decided by a jury led by none other than Riz Ahmed. And as you might expect, Ahmed is excited to serve as Jury President.
“I am honored to be named president of the Platform jury at TIFF this year and to be a part of TIFF with Encounter,” said Ahmed. “TIFF has always been a festival that showcases bold and daring cinema on a global stage. Its commitment to celebrating small independent films, like ‘Sound of Metal,’ has had such a significant impact on my career and many others. I’m looking forward to watching all of this year’s selections and working alongside my fellow jury members.”
This year’s TIFF begins on September 9. You can see all the new announcements below:
