Of all the TV series Marvel Studios has released or is going to release, “Daredevil: Born Again” seems to have the most hype surrounding it. This is probably because the previous “Daredevil” series on Netflix was beloved by many, and Marvel Studios has done a good job of peppering in a little bit of Matt Murdock/Daredevil in other projects over the last few years. But now it’s time for the character to take center stage in his own Marvel Studios project.
In a new interview with SFX Magazine, “Daredevil: Born Again” showrunner Dario Scardapane talked about balancing the new series with previous appearances of the character, most recently in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.” According to the showrunner, this take on Matt Murdock/Daredevil is its own thing and will likely distance itself from the previous appearances.

“I have plenty of leeway up until I hit the larger-scale plan for the MCU,” said Scardapane. “So I try to ignore some stuff [from the wider universe]. We establish a very specific Daredevil, both in terms of his dilemma, down to the suit and where we’re picking him up in his life. You can say that Daredevil is canon in the MCU, those other events [in ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘She-Hulk’] happened, but some of them we are not leaning into. His one-night stand with She-Hulk may be one of those things.”
But just because the showrunner said ‘Born Again’ might be leaning away from Matt Murdock’s previous appearances in the MCU, that doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of Marvel characters showing up in his show. In fact, the showrunner teased that a surprise character will be showing up in the series.
“They’ve moved Matt through other corners of the MCU, and now he’s back in his own story,” the showrunner added. “I don’t want to give anything away, but you’re going to see a character [in our show] you never thought you would, but they get folded into the story in a manner that is organic and exists in our world. New York, in the current state of the MCU, has a lot of stuff going on.”
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too much longer before we can see “Daredevil: Born Again.” The series is expected to make its debut on Disney+ on March 4.
