Danielle Deadwyler finally has her partner for Ryan Coogler and Hulu‘s upcoming “X-Files” reboot.
Deadline reports that Himesh Patel will co-star opposite Deadwyler on the upcoming series, with the pilot shooting in Vancouver this May. The pair will play original characters on the series, but the premise for Coogler’s reboot remains the same: two vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond after they’re assigned to a long-shuttered division that specializes in unexplained phenomena.
The reboot will be an Onyx Collective–20th Television co-production, with Jennifer Yale on board as showrunner. “X-Files” creator Chris Carter is also involved as an executive producer alongside Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler via Proximity Media; Simone Harris serves as co-executive producer through the same banner.
It’s worth noting that Patel’s casting makes “The X-Files” a “Station Eleven” reunion for the actor and Deadwyler. The pair starred together on the 2021 HBO Max limited series, although they didn’t share very much time onscreen together.
Other upcoming roles for Patel include Christopher Nolan‘s “The Odyssey,” in theaters on July 17, and “Enola Holmes 3,” premiering on Netflix later this year. On the TV side, the actor stars in Riz Ahmed‘s comedy-thriller series “Bait,” which premiered on Prime Video yesterday.
Stay tuned for more casting news for the “X-Files” reboot; it’s worth noting that “Sinners” casting director Francine Maisler selects the pilot’s cast.
