Sort of shocking that it took this long, but for the first time, a major television series or film is debuting at the Coachella Music Festival. HBO will drop the first episode of “Euphoria” season 3 in a screening at the end of the festival on Sunday, April 12. This coincides with the first episode dropping six hours before on HBO and HBO Max.
While there are seemingly numerous scenes from the third season of the Emmy-winning series that take place in the California desert, it’s unclear if the festival itself is a plot point this time around.
The screening will take place at approximately 11:59 p.m. PT in the campgrounds, following the evening’s final performance. Anyone who would like to attend will likely miss out on the end of the Sunday headliner set from Karol G. The Sunday night edition traditionally ends at 12 midnight on the dot.
While many campground attendees stay Sunday night, a majority of local Southern California festivalgoers drive home at the end of the festival. Daily attendance for Coachella is usually over 120,000 people per day, although Sunday usually feels less crowded. It is unclear if any of the talent from the film, including creator Sam Levinson or stars Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, or Maude Apatow, will introduce the screening. Considering the swarm of Hollywood talent who trek to Indio every April, it’s likely someone will be on the festival grounds.
HBO Max could have landed more of a publicity splash if they set the episode to debut on Thursday, April 8 on the campgrounds, either before or after the “Day Zero” headliner. Last year, Chris Lake kicked off the fest in the campgrounds. With a week to go, Coachella has not revealed the “Day Zero” headliner as of yet.
“Euphoria” season 3 will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, April 12 at 9 PM ET.
