At this point, moviegoers recognize that Russell Crowe is firmly in the screener stage of his career, and has been for a few years now. Sure, he’s still starring in bigger-budget stuff like the upcoming “Highlander” remake, but Crowe’s regular fare is more like “Land Of Bad” and “The Pope’s Exorcist” these days.

Arguably, that trend started with 2020’s “Unhinged,” with the actor chewing scenery as an unnamed villain subsumed with road rage. Crowe teams up with the director of that one, Derrick Borte, again for his next film, “The Get Out,” hitting theaters and digital late next month. Formerly titled “Bear Country,” the crime pic stars Crowe as a nightclub owner about to leave his racket behind, only to get caught up in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

A nightclub owner is on the verge of leaving his dangerous past behind for retirement with his girlfriend. When masked gunmen rob him and he finds himself squeezed by ruthless cartels, a mysterious newcomer arrives with an interest in buying the business. With danger closing in from all sides, he must navigate a deadly web of deception, power, and survival – where escape may no longer be an option.
Along with Crowe, “The Get Out” also stars Luke Evans, Teresa Plamer, Nina Dobrev, and Aaron Paul.
Borte also co-writes the script for “The Get Out” with Daniel Forte along with directing; the pair adapt Thomas Perry‘s novel “Strip” for the film. Producers on the film include Mark Fasano via Nickel City Pictures, Jeffrey Greenstein of A High Standard, Deborah Glover‘s G2 Dispatch, and Mark Bower‘s Life & Soul Pictures.
