‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Becomes Second Fastest Film To Cross A Billion

Well, there had been some big signs over the weekend after “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” earned a MASSIVE $932 million at the global box office; it would be quick to cross the billion-dollar mark, and that has now happened. The movie has become the second fastest movie to do so, behind “Avengers: Endgame.” It also now holds the record for the highest-grossing domestic opening at $360 million (outdoing “Endgame” on that front) and the second-best global debut (behind “Endgame,” as you’d imagine after hitting $1.22 billion over its own opening weekend).

That update on the film’s speedy box office take comes from Deadline, stating “Brand New Day” has now earned $1.052 as the buzzy superhero film is heading into its second weekend (expected to do EXTREMELY well). Another sign that the movie is going to keep making big bucks is that it’s making decent returns even on weekdays, and could signal a possible path to make even more than “Now Way Home” (made a total cume of $1.9 billion); we could envision it getting really close to $3 billion, but it’s still a wait-and-see situation.

While neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures have said they’ve secured deals for “Spider-Man 5,” there is an assumption that talks are likely to begin anytime, as there is certainly strong demand for these Spidey films, thanks to both Tom Holland and director Destin Daniel Cretton (busy putting together “Naruto” and “Shang-Chi 2,” the former expected to go into production by next year). Stay tuned, because we imagine that while Holland is going to get a much-needed break, that update is likely just around the corner from the studios.

Whatever the case, we’re hopeful that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon could come back, too, as their emotional dynamic with Holland has become the heart of the franchise, something we loved to see become a big narrative element of the film.
