Jay Baruchel Talks 'Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse,' To Feature Running Dead Celebrity Joke?

Remember the Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen internet short that took off and is now expanding to a full feature via Mandate Pictures, “Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse”?

The short centered on two degenerates trapped inside a home in the midst of an apocalypse struggling to put up with the squalor around them and each other.

Speaking with io9, Baruchel has now revealed that the upcoming feature, which should begin production “in some capacity by the end of this year,” will be heavy with celebrity cameos – but there’s a catch.

“We kind of have more grandiose ideas for what the feature would be,” explains Baruchel. “The one thing that I can say — that was my pitch, my idea, that I think we’ll end up doing, because it would be foolish not to — I want a recurring joke, because it takes place in Los Angeles, and there’s a lot of famous people in Los Angeles, I want a bunch of cameos, but I just want them to be corpses. I want them to be like “oh god there’s Will Smith’s dead body in the corner!” And it would actually be him. So that’s my recurring joke for the movie: I want there to be a lot of dead famous people in it.”

Baruchel also reiterates that they’re having trouble fitting the project into their schedules but that it should happen somewhere between or around Rogen’s “I’m With Cancer” and Baruchel’s hockey-film “The Goon” sometime this year. We won’t be holding our breath that’s for sure, as they have been talking about this one “shooting soon” for the past couple of years. This project’s been waiting around for while and seems like plan B of sorts for them.
