Jason Segel has joined the cast of Akiva Schaffer’s “The Adventurer’s Handbook” and will star alongside Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman.
Scribed by Hill, Matt Spicer and Max Winkler (son of Henry), the film will follow four childhood friends who embark on a global adventure inspired by the stories of explorers detailed in Mick Conefrey’s book “The Adventurer’s Handbook: Life Lessons From History’s Great Explorers.”
Segel will play one of the four friends, a talented musician – surprise, surprise – who never got his act together becoming a backup piano player and an alcoholic. Hill will play an engineer isolated from his family with Schwartzman as a spoiled and cowardly three-time Grammy winner.
This will be the first collaboration between Schwartzman and Segel and is something we’re really looking forward to. Also, as both are accomplished musicians in reality playing musician characters, surely we can expect at least a campfire sing-a-along or two in the film and soundtrack, right? Awesome. And looks likes there’s one more position to fill in the film’s quartet which will presumably go to another actor in the Apatow stable though Schaffer’s associations with Andy Samberg’s Lonely Island has us fearing one of those guys may get the job.
Production on “The Adventurer’s Handbook” hopes to begin early next year. [THR]
