Got a Tip?

WTF? David Lynch To Appear On The New Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Collaborative Album

We just received the coolest music promo we’ve received in… forever? Ever? Instead of a press release, we received a poster promo for an upcoming album by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse (two artists you hopefully know by now, especially the lesser known latter project by Mark Linkous).

The album is called Dark Night Of The Soul and is apparently due later this summer. The list of artists involved is typically great: Black Francis (aka Frank Black of the Pixies), Julian Casablancas of the Strokes, Vic Chesnutt, The Flaming Lips, James Mercer of The Shins, Iggy Pop, Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals, Jason Lytle formerly of Grandaddy, Nina Person of the Cardigans and A Camp, Suzanne Vega and… filmmaker David Lynch?

Update: We finally took a picture of the poster. If and when we ever make fun of a photographed poster, please remind us of the piss-poor job we’ve done here. God, it’s a lot harder than it looks.

The list above alone is enough to make Pitchfork and the rest of the indie-rock herd faint with a huge thud, but Lynch? Is he supplying Twitter-like existential thoughts of the day?

According to the minimalist, but creepy poster which shows a faint, washed out screaming face over pixelated street lights (you know like your digital camera does by accident), “visuals by David Lynch” is his role. That’s not to say he doesn’t have a speaking role or something else in the project (music videos??). Who knows, but either way, all of it sounds very intriguing. Linkous (aka Sparklehorse) is a longtime fan of Lynch’s work so maybe this has all been a long time coming.
